Australia Facts – Things You Need to Know Before Going to Australia

Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, consists of the island of Australia, which is its largest island, the offshore territory of Queensland, the mainland of New South Wales, and a number of smaller islands. It is the sixth-most populous country in the world and the second-largest state by area in Oceania. Over half of Australia’s population lives on the land. It has a tropical rainforest, which are one of the most biodiverse places in the world with more than two hundred species of flora and fauna, as well as a wide variety of animal life including seals, birds, lizards, and even dolphins.

Australia is composed of three principal islands, namely, New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, each of which is home to a major city. Out of these three main islands, only one, Bass Strait, is not recognized as an independent country. All other islands are members of what is known as the Commonwealth of Australia. The country is divided into two regions, namely, the Northern Territory, or the Australian Capital Region, and the Southern Territory, or what is commonly known as the Northern Australia.

The Northern Territory consists of the main cities of Sydney and Brisbane, as well as Heard Island, which was previously called New South Wales. The Capital Region consists of Adelaide, Melbourne, and surrounding areas. It has a diverse and varied landscape, with huge ranges in elevation among the different regions. Australia’s outback is characterized by vast areas of desert, grasslands, as well as islands and plateaus.

With regard to its connectivity agenda, Australia has what is known as the National Connectivity Strategy, which seeks to establish stronger and faster connectivity between its east coast, maritime regions, and what is known as the “Pacific Ring.” In addition, the east coast of Australia is considered to be part of the “continental divide” with what is known as the “land down under.” To this day, although Australia has open borders with many other countries, it is considered to be the most isolated major country in the world.

Most people who travel to Australia either do so for business purposes or for a holiday. Although a good number of travelers actually choose to visit Australia for its natural beauty and different culture, there are still many others who choose to visit the country mainly for its beautiful Sydney Opera House, incredible Sydney Harbor Bridge, the fantastic Sydney Harbor Bridge, and other important landmarks. Traveling to Australia may not be that easy given the fact that most people do not want to spend too much on transportation because the roads here are very long and expensive. Luckily, there are now air flights to Australia which makes travel easier and more affordable.

The incredible Great Barrier Reef is also another reason why most people travel to Australia. This is also the reason why Sydney and Melbourne are among the most popular cities in this country.
